Das sieht nicht aus wie ein Foto? Ist es aber. Lediglich die Farben wurden geändert. Als ich mit diesem Projekt am vergangenen Wochenende startete, wusste ich noch nicht wo das hinführen würde. Meine ursprüngliche Absicht war es ein Streichholz mit Flamme und Rauch zu fotografieren, möglichst als Makrophoto. Nach ein paar Versuchen habe ich festgestellt, dass der Qualm spannender ist als die Flamme und dass das Streichholz beim Auspusten mehr Rauch entwickelt als beim Anzünden (Weltneuerkenntnis
Also habe ich den Aufbau geändert und Räucherstäbchen organisiert. Unglaubliche Formen zeichneten sich in den zwei Studioblitzen ab; das Fokussieren war nicht ganz einfach aus der Distanz, da aufgrund des kurzen Aufnahmeabstands die Tiefenschärfe sehr gering war und der Rauch permanent hin und her waberte. Das war Schritt eins mit vielen Fotos. In der Nachbearbeitung war ich nicht ganz zufrieden; eine unglaubliche Schwere mit dem Schwarzen Hintergrund und den (wenn auch faszinierenden) grauen Schwaden. Also habe ich kurzerhand die Bilder invertiert und eingefärbt – et voilá! Die Formen kamen plötzlich wunderbar zum Vorschein und ich spontant motiviert die Bilder auszuarbeiten und in immer andere Farben und Farbkombinationen zu bringen.

This is not looking like a photo? It is! Just the colours have been changed. When I started this project last weekend I haven’t known where it leads to. My orginal aim was to capture a match with its flame and smoke, close as possible as a makro photo. After some tries I noticed, that the smoke is much more interesting then the flame and that the match generates more smoke after dousing (what a wonder!So I changed the arrangement and looked for a joss sticks. Unbelivable structures were there in the flash lights. It wasn’t easy to focus because of the small depth of field and the smoke that was moving back and forth. That was the first step. Starting the postproduction I wasn’t really happy because of the dark and heavy background and the grey smoke. So I decided out of hand to invert the pictures and give them more colour. Bingo! Suddenly the forms were present and the design motivated me to produce more pictures with different styles and colours.
